Generator Ramps

I picked up a Yamaha EF3000iSEB generator in the summer of 2004 to power the A/C and Microwave, and to be able to share power when camping with friends. The Yamaha generators are as quiet as the Honda line, but they run a bit cheaper and generally come with more features than the Honda. Our 3000iSEB came with 12v charging cables and wheels, where the Honda 3000 would have charged extra for those. So far with one summer with the generator its worked great, I bought and extra 25' of 30amp cord so I could leave the generator in the truck while running it.

When first bought the generator I figured getting it in and out of the truck wouldn't be that bad. Now after doing it several times I figured I needed something to make it easier. Now with the F350 I have no choice since the tailgate is up higher than it was on the Avalanche. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on ramps and after another Outback owner made similar ramps for his Yamaha I followed his concept.

Step one was to find these Diamond Plate ramp brackets which will hold up to 350#. They were designed for larger boards, eventually I plan to cut them down some. They come predrilled though I added an extra screw since the two predrilled holes were on the outer edges. I used 2x8 boars, the routed the edges out so a 1x2 could sit down inside the board, which helps keep the generator in the track but without hitting the bottom of the generator.

I cut the foot of the board at an angle to help reduce the lip on the ground, and then notched the top by the brackets so the generator wouldn't rub on the boards when rolling down the ramp.
